Beard and Mustache Transplantation

Bearded youngsters have been at the forefront in movies and TV series recently, bringing beard and mustache transplantation to the fore. This cultivation, which is very popular not only by Turkish men but also by Arab men, should be grouped into three groups as beard, mustache and favorite.

In the beard and mustache area of ​​men, the hair follicles taken from the scalp are transplanted to the areas where there is no hair or where it is seen very rarely. The point to be noted here is that the hair in the nape region is used as a donor in beard-mustache transplantation. As with hair, mustaches also have exit directions. Mustaches have curves. In beards, there are turns in the middle region and bends in the side region. For this reason, it is necessary to pay attention to the aspects and angles of each planting place. As in eyebrow transplantation, channels should be opened at certain angles of 5-10 degrees.

Can it be applied to men with a corner?

Beard and mustache transplantation is a method that can be applied to patients who have no beard and mustache on their face, which is called corner. In this way, hair and mustache transplantation was successfully applied to many Arab and Far Eastern patients who came to our clinic.

However, the fact that the patient to be transplanted is brunette or blonde does not affect the treatment process in any way. It is also necessary to analyze the patients with different colors of hair and beard. It is useful to warn the patient about the possible outcome beforehand.

How to transplant beard and mustache?

Beard and mustache transplantation is a one-session procedure performed under local anesthesia. It is a painless procedure that takes approximately 4-5 hours. On the next day of the procedure, some small crusts can be seen in the transplanted area. But it soon passes. The hairs at the ends of the transplanted roots are shed after 15 days. This is a normal process. After three months, the hairs start to grow again. Within 6 to 8 months, the patient will have the desired beard and mustache.

Is beard transplantation done together with hair transplantation?

If the person who will have a beard transplant will also have a hair transplant, the patient should be evaluated meticulously. Hair follicles in the donor area should be examined in detail. It should be calculated that the hair follicles taken from this area will be used for both hair and beard, and a suitable planning should be made. Sowing should be done without damaging the hair roots and without wasting them. In addition, the hair follicles suitable for the beard should be used for beard transplantation, and the ones for hair should be used in hair transplantation. Hair and beard transplantation can be done at the same time by making the color separation of the hair follicles correctly.

How many roots are used in beard transplantation?

The number of roots to be used in this regard may differ from person to person. The density of the beard desired to be created or the number of roots needed to close it if it is missing are decisive. But in general; 250 – 700 roots are needed for the cheek area, between 150 – 250 for the sideburn area, and between 550 – 700 for the chin area.

How long does a beard transplant take?

This situation may also vary depending on the size and sparseness of the area to be transplanted on the face of the person, the density to be achieved and the density of the hair follicle that can be taken from the donor area. But in general, there are application times that vary between 2 and 5 hours.
